Roles and responsibilities
Benefits of Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition membership
All members have equal status in the Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition. Through designated representatives, they participate in its leadership, direction and activities.
Participation in National Alliances means that members:
- obtain a global platform for publicizing information about ongoing and planned activities.
- gain access to current information about what others are doing.
- identify potential partners for joint action.
- identify possible funding sources.
Participate in a global movement for eradicating poverty and hunger whose strength is derived from shared commitment.
Requirements to establish an Alliance
The overriding goal of the Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition and, in turn, of the National Alliances, is to reach the target set by the World Food Summit and the Millennium Task Force of reducing the number of hungry people by half by the year 2015. Although the specific objectives and roles for each National Alliance will depend on local political and social environment, they do share common objectives requiring:
- a strong sense of commitment to eradicate hunger,
- a framework within which everyone can contribute to this goal, and
- strong action orientation, including both advocacy and direct assistance components.
Obligations for Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition members
Each Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition member, including each National Alliance, must adhere to the following obligations:
- Set up communication strategy;
- Examine resource mobilization avenue;
- Define annual work-plan of action;
- Ensure the regular sharing of information among all National Alliances;
- report periodically on progress being made toward achieving its goals, including a review of major activities and events, objectives and expected outcomes and challenges;
- request of support from the AAHM Secretariat, if needed.
